FAQs

What is a NWTA?

The NWTA is a modern Rites of Passage and self-reflection experience designed for men seeking growth and transformation. We believe this journey is essential to cultivating a healthy, mature sense of self, regardless of age. Inspired by the timeless “hero’s journey” found in classical literature and mythology, this experience fills a void left by its disappearance in modern culture. It challenges men to step away from living passively through movies, television, addictions, and distractions, and instead embark on their own real-life adventure—fully present and supported by a community of men.

What happens on an NWTA?

The basics: You’ll join a group of 15 to 40 men at a camp or retreat facility. We recommend driving no more than 3 hours to the site and encourage carpooling to support ecological awareness and build connections with other attendees.

From Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, you’ll take part in activities designed to help you discover your unique sense of self as a man among men. These include individual and group processes, physical activities, writing, and visualisations. It will be one of the most action-packed weekends of your life.

You’ll be guided by 25 to 50 staff members. The 4 to 6-man Leadership Team is certified to lead these processes, while the rest of the staff will range from first-time members to those with years of experience. All staff contribute to creating a powerful weekend experience.

On Sunday afternoon, after celebrating your journey, you’ll return home. Many men plan a quiet evening or take Monday off to reflect and rest. What you do with what you’ve learned is up to you, but for many, Monday marks the start of a life with renewed vitality and purpose.

What aspects of my life are examined?

We look at nearly every aspect of a man’s life.

  • Where you came from and how you were raised.
  • What you learned about how to be a man.
  • What you want for your future.
  • What you want for yourself and for others.
  • How your unconscious beliefs drive your actions.
  • How you handle your past (and how to break free of it)
  • How you deal with conflict.
  • How you learn to be more effective.
  • How you deal with being alone AND being a part of a team.
  • How you handle fear, anger, shame, joy, sadness.
  • What your unique purpose for being is (and how to move toward it)
  • How you fit in to the natural world.
  • How you fit in as a man among men.
  • What is your relationship to your power as a man?
  • What is your relationship to your spirituality?
  • What is your relationship to death?
  • What is your relationship to women?
  • What is your relationship to your body and sexuality?
How do I prepare for the NWTA?

During the NWTA, you’ll completely unplug from cars, computers, and phones – except for emergencies. This training is designed to take you out of your daily routine and into a space for greater self-clarity. To get the most out of it, plan your schedule to participate fully and without distractions.

There will be outdoor activities, so bring warm, waterproof clothing. A packing list will be sent well in advance—pack light, as you won’t need much.

The training isn’t physically intense—no assault courses or military-style activities—and behaviour that’s aggressive or disruptive won’t be allowed. The weekend is alcohol, caffeine, and smoke-free (patches are available). Meals are simple to help keep you focused. A medic will be on-site for anyone with a medical condition.

Why can’t I get a course outline?

If the details of the weekend were fully revealed in advance, the magic and mystery of the experience would be lost. You wouldn’t truly embark on “your journey” as it unfolds in real time. Describing the concept of personal transformation is one thing, but it pales in comparison to the profound reality of being immersed in the transformative process itself.

Who runs the NWTA weekend?

MKP Australia works with its communities to bring together a skilled and motivated team to lead each training. Most of the staff are volunteers, and because they have all experienced the initiation process themselves, they bring deep understanding and personal insight into the journey of male self-discovery.

The Leader Team running your training has years of experience supporting men in transformational settings. These leaders have committed to ongoing self-reflection and growth. They are rigorously evaluated by their peers and the ManKind Project before being certified to lead the New Warrior Training. Their top priority is ensuring your safety and success during the training weekend.

Ultimately, the training is about your own journey. You are in control of the decisions you make and how deeply you engage with the process. The staff are there as guides and mentors, but it’s up to you to explore your inner world and uncover both the challenges and the strengths within yourself.

Who comes to the training?

During training, you’ll stand alongside a diverse group of men—executives, students, and more—united by a shared goal: to gain focus, direction, and embrace personal growth as men. Some seek healing, others role models for mature masculinity, leadership development, or transitions into manhood or elderhood. All are guided by an inner call, knowing it’s time for change.

Why is this only for men?

We believe men have a vital role in supporting one another and building mutual trust. Our work focuses on guiding men toward a healthier, more mature understanding of masculinity. By fostering connection and growth, we open the door to meaningful, balanced relationships with women—relationships grounded in respect, emotional intelligence, self-reliance, empathy, and compassion. By doing the inner work, we create a ripple effect that benefits everyone.

Is the NWTA for every man?

No. There are many reasons a man might hear “not now” for attending the NWTA. The ManKind Project prioritises the safety and well-being of all participants. This training isn’t suited for men with active mental health conditions that could lead to self-harm or violence, or for those with significant, untreated trauma. Please seek professional mental health support first.

The NWTA is not a replacement for therapy. Many therapists recommend it for men committed to personal growth and ongoing treatment. If you’re in treatment, ask your provider if an intense weekend or men’s group could support your journey. For men in recovery, MKP can be helpful, but the NWTA isn’t a fit if you’re actively using or newly sober.

What are the age limitations of doing the Weekend?

You must be 18 to join, but this training is a journey for men of all ages. Most participants are between 22 and 60, yet the impact knows no limits. Younger men find clarity and direction, while men in their seventies and eighties have described this experience as life-changing. No matter where you are in life, this training is a powerful step toward growth, self-discovery, and transformation.

Will my religious beliefs be welcomed here?

Men of diverse faiths actively participate in ManKind Project (MKP) communities, where respect and acceptance are at the heart of every interaction. MKP welcomes men from all backgrounds and beliefs to come together, fostering an environment where spiritual diversity is celebrated. In our circles, men often share wisdom from their own faith traditions, enriching the group with a deeper understanding of the many spiritual practices that exist in the world.

How do I know if this is right for me?

We don’t recommend this training to everyone.  We encourage you to really think it through before applying. It’s not something to jump into because a spouse or friend suggested it—it’s a commitment to yourself.

If you’re ready for real personal growth, this program will challenge you to face your fears, reflect on your past, and rethink the choices shaping your life. It’s a chance to take control, grow, and make meaningful changes. We work with men who are ready and willing to dive into this transformative experience.

If you’re looking for a breakthrough, more confidence, and deeper, more authentic connections, this could be the next step for you. Imagine feeling grounded, building stronger relationships, and unlocking your true potential. If this speaks to you, it’s time to step into this journey and see what you’re capable of.

My life is already working, why should I do an NWTA?

If so, that’s fantastic! The men who participate in NWTA are not broken—they are often already thriving in life. Participants come from diverse professions, backgrounds, and walks of life. The real question for you might be: “Am I ready to experience a breakthrough—a transformative leap forward in my life?”

What’s the value of the training for my family life?

You’ll be more in touch with your feelings and better able to experience and express a full range of emotions. Your ability to connect with others will improve, your boundaries will be clearer, and your self-image stronger. You’ll be better equipped to open your heart, relate to family, and embrace vulnerability and trust.

Will this training help me in my work/career?

The NWTA is not a management training weekend, but it addresses key topics like leadership, vision, accountability, and integrity. You’ll gain clarity, let go of emotional beliefs that hold you back, and grow as a man, better prepared to manage your life. Your ability to take risks and lead others will improve, as people follow those who know themselves and their direction.

Will the training change my relationships with important women in my life?

Most likely. The impact is generally very positive. Many women appreciate men who balance strength with compassion and gentleness. This training develops those qualities, enhancing relationships. You’ll also reflect on your reliance on women, exploring both the positives and challenges. Ultimately, this process fosters greater respect, appreciation, and clarity in your relationships with women.

How about: “I’ll do it later . . . “?

A “no” to now is still a “no.” It’s a reminder of the times we put life on hold instead of stepping into it with purpose. As men, we often stay in constant motion—doing, achieving, fixing—without pausing to truly be. The New Warrior Training Adventure offers a chance to reconnect with your core self, to stand as a human being rather than just a human doing.

Too often, we ignore our emotional growth, leaving it to others—partners, mothers, girlfriends—only to feel unsatisfied. But what if you took ownership of your emotional life? What if you honoured yourself by asking for what you need, standing in your truth, and making decisions with strength and clarity?

This is your chance to choose growth. Step into a space where you’ll be supported, challenged, and empowered to transform. Commit to yourself and trust that when you do, the time and resources you need will follow. Enrol now and join this life-changing journey of courage, purpose, and discovery. It’s time to take your place as a man among men.

I feel anxious, unsettled before attempting this. Why?

If this resonates with you, it’s a promising sign. The initiation of men by men is a profound and meaningful experience that has largely been forgotten in modern culture. It carries both risk and reward: the risk of truly confronting yourself and the reward of a safe, supportive space in which to do so. Deep within, your intuitive and creative self may recognise the need for initiation—a vital step in cultivating mature masculinity that every man must undertake.

I've never had a good relationship with men, why should I come to this training?

Many men carry justified anger toward those who have broken promises or betrayed their trust. The hard truth is that “like cures like.” When the wounds are caused by a man, another man is often the catalyst for healing. Many of us hold distorted views of masculinity—either demonising men as villains or idealising them to an impossible standard. True understanding comes when we strip away these extremes and see men as they are: flawed, complex, and deeply human. In doing so, we uncover the true essence of manhood—glorious, yet free from illusion.

Does the training only focus on the influence of men in my life?

Men often approach the weekend thinking their biggest challenges will involve their fathers or other male figures. However, this journey also explores how both parents shaped your path. We’ll reflect on how your connection—or distance—with your mother during childhood may still impact your relationships with women today. This is a space for growth and transformation, where you’ll gain insights and build stronger, more meaningful connections.

How are you men able to trust one another when most men don’t trust other men?

We are a supportive community of men, united in a shared journey of growth and self-discovery. Our weekend experience offers a powerful space where transformation begins. In this space, men find purpose, connection, and bonds built on understanding and a shared vision.

As New Warriors, we honour the full spectrum of what it means to be a man. We recognise the shadows men carry, but also the strength it takes to face them. Together, we create a safe, empowering environment where trust and compassion help us open our hearts, knowing we’ve walked similar paths.

This journey honours all life experiences, no matter how heavy. From pain and trauma to resilience and hope, our framework is built to meet you where you are. We’ve supported men through challenges like abuse, suicide, and deep trauma.

Here, you are welcome. Here, you are seen. Step into this transformative space and discover what’s possible. This is a call to courage, connection, and growth. Join us. Your journey begins now.

How much does it cost?

NWTA tuition varies by location based on facility costs and cost of living. In Australia, prices range from $895–$1495 AUD. For current pricing in your region, check the events on our NWTA calendar.

Can I get a shorter, cheaper version of this initiation?

No. Our process has been validated by tens of thousands of men who’ve experienced its profound impact. There’s no shortcut to meaningful transformation, but the breakthroughs you’re seeking are within reach. The timing and design of the initiation experience are key to unlocking those changes.

The cost of the NWTA is in line with other transformational weekends. But the real question is: Are you ready to invest in yourself? Money reflects the value we place on what matters—and your growth and potential are worth it.

Take a moment to consider your commitment to living a deeper, more authentic life. If you’re ready to prioritize yourself and step into this transformative journey, we’re here to welcome you at the next NWTA. This is your chance to grow and awaken to the man you’re meant to be.

What if I pay and change my mind?

We offer a hassle-free, no-questions-asked money-back guarantee.

What if I decide to leave? How will I get home?

When you arrive at the training, you’ll be asked if you’re ready to do what it takes to get what you came for. If you choose to leave, a leader may remind you of that commitment. What you get out of the training depends on what you put in.

It’s common to feel like leaving at some point during the weekend. Many men face this and choose to stay, and most are glad they did. This is part of the process—just like in life when challenges arise. We’ll ask if staying might serve you better, but if you decide to leave, we’ll support you in doing so, ensuring you get home safely. Ultimately, the choice is yours.
